Painting the town red with a gorgeous date by your side can be worth a million bucks—but if this beauty runs salon deep and with an obsession to everything high-end, then it might cost you your wallet.

But haven’t most of the men been there? Involved with a high-maintenance girl at some point; while many won’t admit to their liking of a high maintenance girl, others would prefer to be at an arm’s length once they get a whiff of such girls.

However, there are men who say, “High maintenance girls are like a challenge that I’ll any day accept because they are worth it in the end.”

To each his own, but the truth is that every guy would at least love to get a slice of it. And while we are at it, we give you a lowdown on signs that will help you know if a girl is high maintenance, so that next time you know what you have to do.

1. The mirror is her best friend. A mirror in bedroom, a mirror in bathroom, one also in kitchen, and one in her purse too. She obviously can’t resist to pass any reflective surface without giving a good glance or two. Even when you are in the car, she spends half of her time looking in the rear-view mirror. Are you familiar with this because we are declaring a high maintenance alert!

2. She demands extravagant gifts. Have you ever put in a lot of thought into giving her a gift, and she is nothing but underwhelmed, to put it mildly. She gives you a smile and says it is ‘good’. Period. She was probably expecting an expensive gift, diamonds or pearls. Your mother told you that it’s the thought that matters and you grew up believing in it. Well, she didn’t. Show her a heady bank statement and she’ll be ecstatic.

3. She likes flashy clothes. You dress up thinking that it’s your most snazzy outfit, and she crushes your thought saying ‘what are you wearing?’ or ‘where’d you get that shirt from?’ She is high maintenance. She doesn’t want to be seen around with you if you are not dressed to kill, which only means you have to invest a lot of money in your wardrobe, beside hers, of course. Dilemma, isn’t it?

4. She doesn't prioritize you. Do you constantly find yourself asking the question, ‘but what about me?’, but perhaps are unsure of the wrath that will ensue once you indeed ask this question. Then, my dear friend, you are being whipped by a high maintenance lover. They can be self-centred, eccentric and might also leave you unsatisfied.

5. She wants it first class all the way. You are obviously spending a lot on her by giving her an exquisite, fine-dining experience. And there goes out a request for ordering champagne along with dinner! Typical high maintenance, we say. All of us know the most fun alcoholic moments in a guy’s life have never been accompanied with champagne. The only reason you have that expensive drink so that you can pretend to be some sophisticated elite!

Bottom line: You have decide if you love your girlfriend enough to keep up with the life she wants to lead. Otherwise, your relationship will go nowhere.
